Both Apple and Amazon have reportedly joined the mix in bidding for the distribution rights to the James Bond franchise, which was most recently held under contract by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Whilst Warner Bros appears to be the frontrunner, both Apple and Amazon have the cash to make an aggressive bid with a view to adding to their current video streaming services.

Even if they are being used as stalking horses to drive up the price of the distribution rights being paid by Warner Bros, it is yet another signal about how serious the technology giants are about accessing and owning content as they build out their media platforms.
