Nike’s Self Lacing HyperAdapt 1.0 Sneakers
Yes, these sneakers have auto-tying shoe laces. You put your foot in, a sensor activates and automatically tightens the laces. Like all things tech related, Nike even has an acronym for it – EARL (Electro Adaptive Reactive Lacing). Check out this short video to see how it works – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xcxn7pOYCg
Perfect for: Your active partner who loves the latest fitness technology or your nostalgic friend who will be over the moon to own a pair of shoes with power laces just like the ones from Back to the Future II. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28Wa5L-fkkM).
Cost & where to buy: US$720 retail price. Unfortunately, it is currently only for sale in selected Nike stores in New York City. If you desperately want a pair there are some available for resale on eBay, for over US$2,000. Cool doesn’t come cheap.
Fun fact: It doesn’t matter if Nike doesn’t sell many of these expensive sneakers. The wide press coverage Nike is getting from these shoes means the brand stays front of mind for consumers. For a short history on Nike’s brand power, click here.
Amazon Prime Video
Amazon has launched a direct competitor to Netflix in the US and UK. Although it hasn’t officially launched in Australia, reports suggest it is now possible for us Aussies to subscribe to the US or UK service. Much like Netflix, there are an increasing number of exclusive original shows. The most well-known is The Grand Tour, which is the motoring show hosted by the ex-Top Gear team of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond.
Perfect for: Anyone who has a penchant for watching three middle aged men drive (and joke) around in a collection of sublime cars.
Cost & where to buy: Free for the first 30 days, then US$8.99 per month. Available for purchase at www.amazon.com
Fun fact: The Amazon Prime Video streaming service is an additional way Amazon is using to capture as much online spending dollars as possible. In fact, Amazon is using video content to help make it one of the world’s most valuable companies – read more about it by clicking here.
